We also took him for his 18 month check-up and shots last week (see....more proof how behind we are these days). He weighed in at a hefty 30lbs. and was 35 inches tall. The doctor gave us a hard time cause he is not saying any words yet, but I told her to jump off a bridge (she was a little nutty...she wanted to have him tested for Autism and everything???). He communicates well, and can understand us...he just does not want to talk. I can get him to uh-0h occasionally, and I swear he can say Mama but won't cause he knows much I want him to say it. Other than the talking thing, he is hitting all his milestones...and frankly is quite the little genius. (Well, we think so.)
He loves to jump. He loves to run, I am not even sure he knows how to walk anymore. He loves to make people laugh. He is mischievous, and such a little trouble maker. He loves other kids, and is always trying to make friends with everyone. He is always ready to play. He loves his blankets...two of them, both exactly the same and both Harry Potter blankets (he has to take them everywhere much to his Dad's disapproval). He is the best, and I know he is going to be an awesome big brother.
2 years is coming up so fast...

He is getting so BIG! They truly do grow up to fast.
It was really cool to see through his pictures, one day he was a baby and the next a little boy. I love all his little mischievous grins - you know he has to be thinking of what he could get in to...
And don't worry - one day he will start talking and never stop!
MY tiny tuna man is getting so so big and he has so much HAIR i can't even believe it!! I miss you guys so much and seeing clark please move to UTAH!! But i can't wait for him to start talkin maybe with little harry coming he will start!!
He is so so so freaking cute!
Okay I have to say something and hopefully you won't think I am overstepping my bounds. Tuna may not have Autism, but maybe he has a bit of a speech delay? Getting him into Early intervention may help him to speak more. Also he will get to go to classes to interact with other kids. So it may be fun for him. Although I wouldn't worry to much until he is 2. We thought Gavin was just a struggling genius until he was 2 and we realized there was something up. Seeing Keaton as a regular 18 month old who spoke a lot made me realize just how behind Gavin was.
Tuna is probably just fine but it never hurts to get him checked out. If he is speech delayed the longer he goes the harder it will be for him to catch up.
I really hope that came out as just assvice and not pushy. Love you guys!
Ok, we need a side shot photo before you deliver!
Here's another story for you to ponder! My Brayden was speech delayed. He did not say one word until the age of three--not one. He made all kinds of sounds though and was smart as can be--understood everything, had perfect motor skills, etc. I wasn't worried (mother's intuition) and Don wasn't worried, but the docs were a little worried. So we got him into an early intervention program and he met with all kinds of occupational therapists, speech pathologists, special ed teachers, playgroups, etc. for a full year (3days a week) from age 2-3. He had fun and loved all the interaction and best of all it was free.
Then we finally got his hearing tested: he needed tubes. He got them and I kid you not he spoke sentences a month later. They had diagnosed him with all kinds of sensory integration disorders, delays, whatever, and he just could't hear us!
So don't worry too much. But if it makes you feel better, there are lots of early intervention (most of them free through your local school disctict) that can offer advice.
Can he get any cuter???
Yeah I wouldn't worry. We all need intervention.
Wow! Thanks guys...
I actually did not even think of the whole speech delay thing...she just said autism and I tuned her right out. Had she started out with the whole speech delay and early intervention thing, I would have been more receptive to hearing her. Also, it is hard to trust a doctor, and the advice or critisim they give when you see some different every time (so annoying!).
He will be having another appt. in a couple months, so I will bring it up then. I know classes would be so good for him, especially since he doesn't get too much interaction with other kids.
Really...thanks for the great advice!!!!
He seriously is the handsomest kid.
Maddie was a late talker, you would never know that now. I think she was, because she was pretty much an only child and she never spent time with other kids. As soon as Jakes neice and nephew moved in, boom....she stared talking. Just put him around other kids his age more. But you know his father is mentaly retarded, so it might be genetic.
I do love his fatness! Not the fattest anymore, but I just can not get enough of him!!
I sure hope Harry is as cute! He has alot to live up too! But at least we know he will be chubby!! and I am so excited to see how Clark does with him! I a little want to start a bet on how soon he whacks little Harry! Oh how much I LOVE you giant Tuna!!
I can't believe his hair.. I don't know if you know this but he has an aunti bubba that cuts hair.. I'll even cut you a deall.. But I would leave the precious curls.. It's just super long and fluffy.. I love love it.. Miss you always!! Give clark a kiss for me.. I bet if you try he can say my name.. Bubba!!!
